Pipe Terminology

Power Chamber
The race-inspired Power Chamber is a unique crossover system that delivers the power and performance advantages of a 2-into-1 race system, yet keeps the intimidating look of a 2-into-2 drag pipe. The Power Chamber uses the volume of both mufflers to improve scavenging of each cylinder for more efficient combustion. The end product is more power, more torque and one perfect sound.
Full Coverage Heat Shields
Vance & Hines pioneered aftermarket heat shields. 220 degrees of coverage to eliminate the sight of bluing head pipes or mufflers. Also acts as a barrier to protect from the heat of the head pipes and mufflers.
Stepped Headers
A racing concept taken to the street. Vance & Hines has long utilized stepped headers in its sport bike and racing applications. The steps create different speeds for the exhausts gases to travel creating more power and torque.
Muffler Body
The portion of the exhaust system which the baffle is attached to. The muffler body area is typically the portion which assists in building up back pressure and lowering the sound levels of the exhaust gases with different baffle designs.
Head Pipes
The pipes directly off the cylinder heads.
Baffles
Baffles are commonly used to reduce the sound levels of exhaust and also aid in the build up of back pressure. Vance & Hines engineers design each baffle to match the engine and exhaust for the best possible performance and sound quality.
Exhaust Gaskets
Seals the head pipe to the cylinder head. The gaskets should be replaced when the pipe is removed.
Hot Tips
Optional tip designs by Vance & Hines for the Longshots and Straightshots, allowing the rider to easily customize their exhaust system looks.

Technology

At the forefront of exhaust technology, Vance & Hines brings you the highest quality product on the market today. To help you recognize what sets our systems apart, we have created a series of at-a-glance logos to demonstrate the technology available in each product. We have made it easier for you to truly appreciate the quality and value of each system we manufacture.
Blue Proof
Our Blue Proof logo designates an exhaust system with full length heat shields as shown in the illustration. Full-length heat shields provide a long lasting show-like chrome finish by preventing the appearance of discolored exhaust, and also act as a barrier to protect you from the heat of the head pipes and mufflers.
Power Chamber
Our Power Chamber logo designates an exhaust system featuring race inspired crossover technology. The Power Chamber delivers the power and performance advantages of a 2-into-1 race system, yet keeps the intimidating look of a 2-into-2 drag pipe. As shown in the illustration, the Power Chamber utilizes a proprietary crossover, which maximizes the volume of both mufflers to improve scavenging of each cylinder for more efficient combustion.
Quiet Baffle
Our Quiet Baffle logo designates an exhaust system compatible with our optional quiet baffles. Baffles are used to reduce the sound levels of exhaust and also aid in the build up of back pressure as shown in the illustration. Every system we manufacture is complete with standard baffles that our engineers design to match the engine and exhaust for the best possible performance and sound quality. Now we also offer quiet baffles for our most popular systems, which provide a reduction of 2-3 dBs of sound volume.
Fuelpak
Our Fuelpak logo designates an exhaust system compatible with our Fuelpak tunable fuel injection management system. We recommend that you adjust your fuel delivery with any modifications that relate to your fuel mixture. Fuelpak is the easiest to use fuel injection management system on the market today.

Fuelpak is intended for racing or off-highway use only, and is not legal for sale or use in California on pollution-controlled vehicles.
O2 Sensors
Our O2 Sensor logo designates an exhaust system equipped with O2 sensor mounts. All 2007 Harley-Davidson exhaust systems come standard with O2 sensors. For better tuning and a factory finish when installing a Vance & Hines exhaust system, we have incorporated the necessary mounts to accommodate the factory O2 sensors.
Spark Arrestor
Our spark arrestor logo designates an exhaust system compatible with our spark arrestor. This insert is a USFS approved screen intend for off-road use only. The spark arrestor comes standard in all XCR exhaust systems and can also be utilized in the Aluminum Pro systems.
94 dB Sound Insert
Our 94 dB insert designates an exhaust system compatible with this insert. Sold as an option to reduce sound to the 94 dB FIM racing specification. This insert can be used in both the XCR and Aluminum Pro systems.
99 dB Sound Insert
Our 99 dB insert designates an exhaust system compatible with this insert. Sold as an option to increase mid and top range horsepower. Will also achieve the 99 dB sound requirements. The 99 dB insert comes standard in all Aluminum Pro systems and can also be utilized in the XCR systems.
